July 4th and a declaration of dependence.
July 6, 2010Often times I find myself hunched over my monitor in search of the right words, I mean just the right words to describe an image or a set of images. To describe a couple, a moment, THE moment. There have been times where minutes turned into hours and still nothing to show for it but a blinking curser on a blank screen. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. But then again sometimes, just sometimes the Goodness shows itself in a way that needs no introductions. The moment could no better be described than one tiny spec of white could improve upon Van Goghs Starry Night. It is simply perfect within itself. This was one of those moments.
She quietly slipped up the stairs and stood between Joe and Nickey on the front porch of what could been a house in anywhere America. This particular home just happen to be in Neptune City, NJ. She smiled. And we all smiled back as she lifted the tiny red book and turned to a page that had been dog eared just for this occasion. Nickey immediately began to tear as the young woman ever so softly began to read. The book was Sandol Warburg’s classic “I like you”. The moment, well, I will let it speak for itself.
So many reasons
On the 4th of July I like you because it’s the 4th of July
On the fifth of July, I like you too
If you and I had some drums and some horns and some horses
If we had some hats and some flags and some fire engines
We could be a HOLIDAY
We could be a CELEBRATION
We could be a WHOLE PARADE
See what I mean?
Even if it was the 999th of July
Even if it was August
Even if it was way down at the bottom of November
Even if it was no place particular in January
I would go on choosing you
And you would go on choosing me
Over and over again
