The society of thrift geniuses: Jessica & Jason

March 7, 2011

Jessica once told me that her friends and family just didn’t get it. Having a vintage wedding in Miami that is.  This was a new one, even for her own event coordinator and what baffled her family even more was the evening she came home with a rotting old desk that her and Jason had snagged off the side of the street.  She didn’t have a clue what she was going to do with it, but whatever she came up with it would be perfect.  It sat in the their garage for over a year. There silently waiting for a purpose as Jessica and Jason saved every dime to pay for the wedding themselves, not to mention the countless hours spent scouring the thrift stores for mason jars and throw away books. Supposedly people don’t do these things in Miami. But Jessica did, and whether others understood the reasoning mattered not.  She loves it. And Jason loves her and as I stood there listening while Jessica basked over her wedding details, recalling each story to every vase, book, and birdcage I began to feel as if I were part of some sort of misunderstood secret society of thrift geniuses where only one of our own could turn a discarded desk pulled from a pile of garbage into the perfect cake table. A world filled with birdcage veils, paper flowers, burlap table clothes, and bow-ties. And while not everyone may get it, its okay because membership simply isn’t for everyone.

I love the feelings I experience when I look at your images and listen to the music, I think it feels like I want to cry.

Who’s music is it?

Do you always shoot wide open, it gives such a softness, like a dream! Rebecca said: This is just stunning. It left me speechless. Amazing work. I am absolutely thrilled. For some reason, this brought tears to my eyes, I don’t know why. But I am absolutely touched by these photographs. The couple looks so very in love and…it’s just amazing. There’s something about all your sessions that makes me never want to stop looking at them. I think i’ve looked at these photos about 10 times.
Second, I am getting married this fall and I absolutely LOVE this couple’s invitations. I was wondering if you knew where they ordered them from (I don’t know why you’d know that but it doesn’t hurt to ask right?) or if you had any contact information with which I could ask them myself. Any help you could give me would be awesome, thanks!

What a beautiful wedding. I really love your detail shots and the vintage processing looks great. Sam said: I love EVERYTHING about this wedding… except one thing. Why isn’t the bride smiling? Out of all of them, there is only one picture where you can actually see the bride’s teeth because she is smiling. I hope she was happier than she looks in the photos. (But don’t get me wrong, the photos are GORGEOUS.) Marc said: Your work is touching. Your ability to capture the memory of the wedding is spectacular!
